Preparing Students for Mastery Learning - How to Start a Year - Part 3 Parent Buy-In

One important way to get students ready for Mastery Learning is actually getting their parents on board. To that end, I create a video for parents to watch that walks them through why Mastery Learning is best for their students. 

The purpose of the video is to answer one question I think all parents are asking: 

What are parents most concerned about?  

I think they are most interested in the following questions:

• Is their child in good hands?  To that end, I introduce myself.
• Will my child be able to learn well in this system? 
• Why am I teaching using Mastery?  I spend some time explaining the reasoning behind Mastery Learning - just the high points. 
• Do you care about my child?
• How are grades determined? At my high-achieving high school, this is always important.
